‘Together Against Diabetes’ in Al Ain Hospital

AL AIN - A campaign titled “Together Against Diabetes” is currently under way at Al Ain Hospital to raise awareness of the disease and the risk factors among the people. The campaign will run until September 27.

The Chief Executive Officer of Al Ain Hospital, George Jepson, said the goal of Al Ain Hospital’s new Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre is to identify the diabetes risk factors at an early stage, which is essential for curbing the onset of the disease.

According to World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, UAE ranks second in the world where prevalence of diabetes mellitus is concerned. WHO indicates that one in five adults in the country in the 20-79 age group suffers from diabetes.

Jepson added that the hospital’s campaign is focusing on raising awareness of the increasing prevalence of diabetes - Type 1 and Type 2 - within the community.

“Our objective is to raise awareness of diabetes and its complications, and to encourage early diagnosis. Al Ain Hospital Diabetes Centre’s multidisciplinary programme treats patients with all forms of diabetes and its related complications,” stated Dr. Talaat Al Deyab, Specialist Outpatients Services Clinical Manager, Al Ain Hospital.

Dr. Eman Awad, consultant endocrinologist and head of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Centre, added, “Our programme emphasises educating the patient and their families about diabetes and its related complications, while encouraging patients to take an active role in their own diabetes management.”
