Nolan Nicol of Fraser Lake is managing his Type 1 Diabetes much better with the help of his open loop insulin pump.
The cost of an insulin pump is about $8000, and for the Nicols there was never a doubt that they would buy one for Nolan, a very active seven-year old who plays hockey and runs just like any other kid.
The BC Government is currently looking at passing a bill that would cover the cost of such pumps for kids like Nolan.
“That would be fantastic if that cost were covered - as many other daily medical trappings of diabetes are not covered under BC Medial plans.
Diabetics who once received their insulin by injection, can now receive it via a pump like Nolans’ that hangs off his belt with a direct line into his stomach.
