Cost Of Diabetes Drugs Has Doubled Over The Past 6 Years

Washington (ChattahBox) - According to U.S. researchers, the cost of diabetes drugs has doubled over the course of the past 6 years.

Researchers led by Dr. Caleb Alexander of the University of Chicago found that from 2001 to 2007, the cost of diabetes drugs has doubled.

Over that time period, this came out to a major increase from $6.7 billion in 2001 to $12.5 billion in 2007.

This may only get worse as it is expected that the number of diabetes cases may spike further

Many doctors in the U.S. are rising these costs due to the fact that they are giving patients new, more expensive diabetes drugs.

This comes despite the fact that these new drugs are not seen as being more effective than older, cheaper drugs.

The study was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
